Adromischus alstonii (Klinghardt Mountains)

A beautiful red spotted form of A. alstonii from the Klinghardt Mountain region in Namibia.

Adromischus alstonii. Klinghardt Mountains

This Adromischus really caught my eye when I first saw it very green leaves with many very bright red spots small spots rather than large sploches especially noticeable if the plant is stressed. In one single population they have been seen to have great variability from stout small shrubs to miniatures Adromischus is again a very variable species so therefore hard to identify from the leaf shapes or shrub size alone. Leaves can vary from spotted to plain green grey and white. Sizes of leaves 3 to 8 cm long and either wide or narrow.

The Adromischus alstonii I have known has always had lightly spotted silvery leaves and is quiet tall and robust. This selection offered is new for me. Most of the Adromischus alstonii I find rather vigorous and form a reasonable shrub in 3 to 4 years but this one is smaller and much slower growing. I feel to about 6 or 8 cm High and wide in 3 to 5 years

Flowers are 20 to 35 cm tall spikes 3 to 5 flowers per stem and are a white pale pink and purple.

Adromischus Alstonii is one of the more Northern species growing from Namibia to North Cape in SA mainly near Namaqualand to the Richtersveld areas.Low rainfall area summer rain to 250mm

Plants for sale displayed in a 75 mm pot. Winter photo will get much redder.
